JAUME PLENSA

1998
In 1996, during an interview, Jaume Plensa, answering a question on the « difference » between works that have been thought for a public space and those thought for a gallery, said: « I always wanted an integration in the public space, to succeed to be as one with it. In an exhibition, to the contrary, works engender their own space, as if to protect themselves ».

« Waiting-room » is then a protected space which enrol – without changing it – in the ampler space of the gallery.
« Waiting-room » is above all an intimate, inner space, measured up to man, in which the light solidity of the material contibutes afterwards to increase the image of a place for meditation. An open empty place, which however can be only filled mentally.
