JEAN MICHEL OTHONIEL

After one man exhibitions in such prestigious places as The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice in 1997 and PS1 , New York in 1998, he created in 2000, for the celebration of the centenary of the Paris metro, « Le Kiosque des Noctambules », permanent installation of the subway-entrance-artwork of Palais Royal Musée du Louvre, Place Colette in Paris. In his works he privileges the allusive references. His sculptures have unusual and sensual beauties, subversive sweetnesses, made to capture one’s eyes.

Regarding this last original creation which will be presented at the gallery, 4, rue Jacques Callot, on october 4th, 6 p.m, in presence of the artist, Jean-Michel Othoniel wrote:

The fountain of pleasure and tears

Throat sugar, pearly humours,
Folwings of nectar, traces of salt.
Hidden in the centre of a phantasm garden,
Moans a fountain of youth.
Two mother of pearled basins hold between their lips
Organs of abandoned glass:
Humid and erected bosoms,
Tears of pearl, collars of sweat,
Fruit lobes offered;
Shapes coiled in the heart of stopped waters.
